A director on an executive board commissioned an individual development programme with three aims; to review her career, to address areas of conflict with peers, and to understand her impact on others.

During the sessions we used an imaginative range of techniques including open discussion, questioning, a series of psychometric tests, role-play, visioning and focused tasks, and we carried out a career review process and interview preparation. Executive coaching was preceded by MBTI and FIRO-B, and Kolb's learning styles and the adult learning cycle were used as frameworks. I used an Appreciative Inquiry approach to bolster her confidence and Kilmann's conflict inventory to help her understand her preferences for dealing with conflict, and to provide alternatives.

The client also updated her visual appearance, and invested in a new professional wardrobe. She was successful in all three of her goals and was subsequently offered a very senior role with a significantly increased portfolio at one of London's national art galleries.
